Educated Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa. and practiced law in Pa., Mo., and Ind. before being appointed 1870 by President Grant as Associate Justice of Colo. Supreme Court. Lived 1870-1885 in Central City, Colo. Elected to U.S. Congress 1876 and served, except for one session, until 1885.
